First holiday purchase

This post by Ripples made me realize something. I have officially made my first Christmas purchase! Yay. Having children in the family makes this so much easier and enjoyable. That said, the gift is not a gift just yet. It's a $50 giftcard to Little Tykes that I got for $25. I am planning on getting a table and chair set for the nephews. They have MORE than enough toys and clothes, and this is something I know they can use year round inside or outside the house.

One website that I love to look at, even though I've only ever bought 1 item from it, is FindGift.com. I just like sorting through the pages and pages of useless junk with the hopes that it may give me an idea of something for my family, but so far it has only happened once. I still find the site entertaining, so I thought I'd share.

My back-up (or main) plan remains to give everyone just cash. It's easy, the right size, right color, and something everyone will like. Last year I did $100 for each parent, $50 for each sibling, plus toys for the kids and cards/sweets for friends. I may just stick to that this year again. Can't go wrong.

It doesn't mean I can't look...
Wouldn't this be perfect for one of my siblings...

  2. I have most of the knitted stuff done. My kids arent getting much so they have made a list of the things they needed most(why are yoga pants at the top of both eitheir lists). We are getting my son two new tires..so I am putting a little away each week for that.

I managed to get my nephew a little tikes tables last year at a flea market and he uses it constantly so did my kids when they were little so I think that is a great choice. As for the rest of the family except for the little ones(under 18)and my mom I am not buying gifts. Well and for my kids but nothing like years before. The rest of us are just going to enjoy being together since no one can really afford it, plus we decided to make Christmas(which is at my house of course) a bring a dish so we will work that out at Thanksgiving.

And after all you accomplished this year I think you need to buy yourself a little something :)

  4. Christmas shopping already? Good for you! We are all talking about how not to spend a bunch of money on crap. It does not always work. But maybe this year.

  5. I always went for educational toys, and if I couldn't find anything they'd like, the fallback was MOST NOISE!!!! Can you tell I was a "favorite uncle"? HAHAHAHA

    Peace <3

    1. Haha. During holiday season, we do gift-giving from the social services, and we're always so conscious NOT to give toys that will give the problems more headaches. Nothing like hearing complains about toys being too loud or needing much maintenance... but on the other hand, I'd give them all 100% sugar chocolate and let them go at it like cats on catnip.

  6. Tables and chairs are perfect for little ones. They love to have things their own size. We have a set in our living room. It's the one thing of theirs that they use the most. We keep crayons and coloring books on it. And sometimes they drape a blanket over it to make a tent.

One year I gave money to all of the teenagers in our family but I wanted to do something special. So I looked up money origami. I made the boys an origami shirt out of their money and then wrapped it in a shirt box with tissue paper. For the girls I made Origami hearts and wrapped them in jewelry boxes. It was a hit.

    1. I've seen those origami money arts. But let's just say I'd be afraid of them ripping the money. I also saw those cubes that capture the money until you solve the puzzle. I was really thinking hard about getting that one!

    1. Trust me, that website is full of the kind. I'd love to get them one, if it wasn't because I hate spending money on knickknacks!
