There is a WASP in my car!

Ok. One of the things I hate about warming temperatures, exclusive to spring and early summer, is bees and wasps. It got up to 88 today, so while trying to take a nap in my car, I of course had my windows down, but only 1/4 to 1/3 down. Then BAM! I hear the buzzing. I freak out and jump out with no shoes on, to find a wasp in my rear windshield. Great!

I spend 15 min trying to... well, trying to THINK what to do. So I grab my shoes and my bag and go back to work. Now I definitely do not have an incentive to head back to the house!... on the other hand, I have to find a way to deal with this in the next hour. Sigh.

Doesn't help that the entrance to my work is under an arcade entrance surrounded by greenery, that attracts mass amounts of carpenter bees (or honey bees, I can't tell). We have to run/dash towards the entrance every day... not fun.

I've also had something flying in my car as I am driving, but it's usually a smaller bee or a fly. I'll take the fly, thank you. But the initial panic just has me wanting to pull over and run flailing my arms. How do you deal with a wasp in your car? Any advice?

  1. No advice for you but jealous of the 88 degree weather. The high today here us 33. Not to great for almost mid April.

    1. Wow, that's still pretty cold! I saw that IL was having mid 50's and was a bit jealous myself. We skipped spring altogether.

  2. I hate when there is a bug in my car. It doesn't matter what it is, it freaks me out. One time I had a bee land in my hair when I was walking to my car. I didn't know it was a bee but I felt something in my hair as I was driving. I thought it was a leaf. Luckily when I pulled it out I kind of flung it so it landed on the passenger seat and somehow I didn't get stung. Once I saw it was a bee though I almost went off the road. It really scared and surprised me!

    1. Oh my, if it got THAT close to me I'd pull over and run! I've never been stung, but I am honestly terrified of them. First few times it happened, I really did just stop the car in the middle of the road in front of a red light and jumped out. Lucky for me, this was in the dead of the morning so there were no cars around.

  3. Oh my goodness you sound like me.. if it buzzes it will find me!.. I was driving one day down a stretch of road which is 55 mph. All the windows open it was a BEAUTIFUL day, dont you know, a WASP flys into MY window and lands on the driver side seat right next to my leg! I almost landed in a ditch when I pulled over, I jumped out of the car and I found some kind of small leather case on the floor and I crushed him an got him out of the car. Like you, I love the warmer weather but you can keep the bees!.

Im a new reader to your blog and just started to try and get out of debt myself. Im going to read back into your archives. What I've read so far Im enjoying :)

  4. I thought this was going to be social commentary. Like having to drive a co-worker or something. (get it?)

    1. Haha. I get it. But no... I think I'd prefer a wasp of a co-worker to something that may sting me while I drive! Though very interesting post/title for someone dealing with carpooling...
