All gifts are in the mail and on their way

My brother picked up his gifts when we went to lunch on Sunday, and he also took home the parents' and my younger brothers/sister's cards. I put the rest of the letters in the mail yesterday, and have two gifts left to give out: one for my landlords, I figure I'll "drop it off" (leave on the table) on Friday or earlier. My half brother and I are getting together for lunch on Monday, so he will get his card there. Then I'm done done.

I completed up to $500 in funds for my dad's toy (the iPad 3rd gen)... me and my brother bought it on Sunday (for $508 total). Initially, he had agreed to put part of it. Then he backed off that portion, but I had already budgeted for that, so no issue there. However, what I did not budget for was the Apple Care (insurance) that's pretty much required as with any other Apple toy. That comes to $99. A decent case is a necessity as well (since my brother's kids will most likely use the iPad more than my dad is going to). Good cases can go for $70~90. I'm not spending that kind of money at all. So my brother offered to get the Apple Care. He emailed this morning he wont be able to, so there goes that plan. He said he may get the case, but yeah. Not holding my breath. My dad will have to cover for those items. I am still pretty happy with the deal we got (about $150 off including taxes, plus a $50 gift card towards a case). Whatever. I've done my part and I'm done. I can only hope he won't lend this one and let it get stolen and not replaced.

I'm getting new glasses on Saturday (they're ready for pick up!), so I'm somewhat excited about that. This Friday will be a very uneventful payday, and there's nothing wrong with that. I'm more excited for the following payday in January (Jan 4th) where I get to throw a SUPERSIZED snowball at my CC1. It's a total of $640! That's almost 70% of the whole paycheck. I can't wait.

  1. You don't need AppleCare... iPads are well built & last. We've never had any issues with ours... :)

    1. So far, my dad has used every single repair/replacement for his Apple toys (starting back with his first iPhone), so I am sure the two repairs that Apple Care provides will be used... at least one of them will, especially with a baby tampering with the iPad.

    2. Apple Care is the one warranty I always buy - and have usually ended up using - so I know where you're coming from.

Congrats on the huge snowball you'll be throwing! That's awesome!

  2. You should not be buying gifts. You should have thrown the money you used to buy your father an IPad at your debt. Can you just think of how much debt all those presents could have paid off? *shakes head* What are you thinking?

I'm scared you'll never change and wake the hell up.

    1. I appreciate your concern on what I 'should' or 'shouldnt' do with my money. I'm already paying in excess of 50% of my salary at debt. Their gifts are paid with money otherwise labeled my entertainment/savings funds... so yes, it could've gone to debt, but just as I spend on my travels instead of throwing it all into debts, I chose this instead of debt repayment.

    2. It just seems strange that you want to sacrifice debt repayment for people who have treated you so horribly.

    3. Not strange at all, she may not be able to control how her parents treat her, but she can treat her parents in a way that is aligned with her personal values.

  3. C, when you are going to troll peoples blogs and treat them horribly, at least have the courage to post your true name behind the message instead of "Anonymous". It's pathetic.

Tanner, I have so much respect for how you handle yourself and the values you live by. Don't ever let anyone change the way you are.

    1. No worries, Stan. Our friend here seems to drop often... or maybe it's his twin. Gotta take it all in stride! People have opinions. Can't do much about it. I'm not working to impress any random person who won't even get a profile together so they can be held accountable for their words... or even for those that do. As you guys have said, I have my standards and work towards them. Thanks for your support!

  4. We don't always have to agree with every choice someone makes to still be supportive. Unless we are in their shoes we really don't know they path they are taking. The iPad was laid out there with Tanner knowing full well that some were going to question that decision. I appreciate the full disclosure. However, while we can make suggestions and offer alternatives.... we aren't walking the same path.

  5. Tanner, you sound like me. When you can throw a huge chunk of money at a debt, it's like buying yourself a present. Enjoy your new glasses - I bet they will look sharp!

    1. Oh, and you're a little unlike me in that I'm way more stingy with gifts.* I guess it's better to be in your family than in mine over the holidays! ;o)

    2. I agree... hitting debt where it hurts is always like Christmas all over.

  6. Tanner, to be honest, it does drive me nuts that you let yourself get taken advantage of again and again. Obviously you are well aware that its happening and have made that choice.

    Merry Christmas!
