Busses, tires and extra work

How I know it's already September
I am quite surprised that for the past 2 weeks, I've worked a total of 36 hours at my part time job. I know it doesn't sound like a lot, but it is unusual for me. For whatever reason, wedding season started a lot later this year than it has over the past 6-8 years. We're supposed to stay busy all of September and most of October, which has usually been the end of the season. I'm not complaining one bit... yet, and the money is welcomed. It was smooth sailing this weekend with work keeping me pretty occupied, and the rest of the time, laundry or cleaning took up most of my free time. I also discovered my parents' collection of 3 crockpots had no lids... as I had said, they have never used a crockpot, so since the lids were bulky, they got rid of them or misplaced them, while keeping the crockpots for show in the cabinets. Peachy. So no chicken and dumplings! Big disappointment.

Oh, and the tire I had to change? Well, it seems the rim itself is cracked, so I need a new rim for my tire. Speaking of tires, I need a new tire too, since this one was about to blow up at some point ('thankfully', it developed a leak because of the crack before it blew up).

I did not spend money at all this weekend, which was awesome. I've been overspending every time I go to my parents', and it really hurts my budget even if I cover it up by eliminating other expenses. I only need to buy some chicken or whatever meat is on sale, and I'll be set until Friday. Oh, the joys of cooking for 1 very reluctant eater.

Most of the extra money from my part-time job will be shuttled to one of 3 places:
1) Car registration: $135, due October
2) Rim and tire: ??? (estimating $150-$200+)
3) Gift for sibling's birthday

At least it doesn't bother the rest of my normal budget. I call that a success! Happy Monday.

  1. I'm not sure if this will work for you or not, but if one of the crock pots is the round style (I think it's mainly the older ones), you might be able to use the lid from a different cooking pot. We have a 35-year-old crock pot that works great with a mismatched lid.

    1. I never thought of that. I'll definitely look this weekend!

  2. Haha I love that picture. There are two elementary schools actually INSIDE of my neighborhood, so I pretty much hate it when school is in session.

    1. I feel your pain. There's a middle school and HS a few blocks from work, and it's full of 1-way streets. Oh, the horror!

  3. You can find mismatched or loose lids at Goodwill, too.
As to the wheel and tire, check the used tire stores. If you're careful, you can get a replacement a lot cheaper than at an auto parts store. If you've got junk yards around there that let you pick parts, that's another good possibility.

And glad you've gotten a bunch of hours! That's awesome!

    1. I'll have to check at the store tomorrow. Maybe I'll just get a whole crockpot ad be done with it... they're fairly cheap.

We're planning a junkyard visit in the future, if we can't find one off ebay or online for a decent price. They're upwards $500 at the stores!

    2. Yeah, crockpots are cheap, but $1-2 vs. $25-30...

If you were near me, I'd take you to Chesterfield Auto Parts. You can call and ask if they've got it, then go pick it yourself. Not a bad deal. I've pulled $200 parts new for $20! Worth the extra work to get the parts off the junker yourself.

  4. Yah for the extra hours!
Once you are past Oct. and get some more sleep you'll be glad you had the hours.

And I predict a trip to the junkyard with your dad in the near future....lol
