2013 in numbers

Ta-da! This is me refusing to sleep because I am dead tired from my full time job and CANNOT WAIT for Open Enrollment to be over with. Only to start the whole process (in smaller portions, of course) sometime Jan 3-5.

But this is my pretty little chart of DOOM. Just kidding. This is 2013 in numbers, as Quicken sees it. We don't always see eye to eye, but I digress.

My biggest two expenses? Paying off my student loan (go me! go me! you did it! you got this!) and of course, housing, which is about 98.5% rent, 1.5% furnishings, etc. Next, we have auto (including insurance, gas and maintenance).

Not too bad at all. Then it just goes down the line. I think it's easier to see it per month: $561/mo on student loans, $525 on housing, $195 on auto expenses, $144 on food, $133 on parents' stuff, $120 on food misc. personal items. Considering those categories make up 90% of my income, I think I didn't do too shabby.

2014 will look a lot different, though. And maybe even a little empty, as most of the year will be spent aggressively saving. But that's a post for another story. I really could use some sleep.

PS: Christmas was ok. Just ok. Glad it's over though. Hope everyone else had a much nicer one!

  1. $120 on food? Tanner, please tell me you will make food more of a priority in 2014. What are you eating? I'm sorry, I'm not trying to tear you apart but that makes me really worried.

Kudos on the student loan! Wonderful job!

    1. No worries. I tear myself apart on that all the time. I don't eat a lot and have a very stalled metabolism (which really doesn't help me lose weight--contrary to popular belief). I have plans to bypass this whole food thing... though $120 was really close to my goal. Actually, it was very spot on, but I am afraid most of those food items were the bulky purchases vs actual food. I am quite horrible when it comes to eating.

    1. You and I both! And hey, being this disciplined is BORING. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemies. I'd trade you with the squirrels, even!

  3. Do you like Quicken? I've considered purchasing it, but not sure I'd use it enough to warrant the purchase. However, I love seeing the #s like you posted above.

    1. I do like Quicken, and it is great if you visit it at least once every 2 weeks. You have to re-categorize stuff that was auto-sorted wrongly, and that's pretty much most of the upkeep. A word of advice is that you can get the older versions normally pretty cheap, and they are just as good (if not better). I myself much preferred the 2008 version, but once you upgrade, you can't downgrade.
