Phone research

On Sunday, I had tried to make a deposit through the Bank of America's ATM. Funnily enough, it was a BOA check, from their overdraft settlement. The check got stuck, and the machine ended up swallowing it whole before it went out of service! How frustrating. It had just started to snow (DID I MENTION WE GOT SNOW?! IT WAS AWESOME!), so I headed home and decided to call BOA in the morning.

Monday mornings are not for resolving things, as I was swamped with work and didn't get to it until my lunch break. On my third transfer to the appropriate department, my phone died. Dead dead. Battery was properly charged, it was just working one second, dead the other. Nothing I did for an hour seemed to help. Which got me thinking... what if it stays dead? I'd need to contact people and let them know, then try to scarcely remember what other things I had there, such as phone numbers, addresses and dates.

BB's Z10 and Q10
Worst of all, the new Blackberry phone doesn't come out until the end of this month, and that's the full-touchscreen one. The one I'd prefer, half physical keyboard, doesn't come out until June! So I'd either need to borrow one or make a forced upgrade (lose my grandfathered in data plan) or buy something at full/ebay prices to get me through. None of those were good options. So eventually, I went back to work, and within another hour, the phone started to work and all was good in the world.

To be honest, as much as I'd want a new phone, the new BB's have me a little underwhelmed for their price. I do want a better camera phone, and my phone has overall been dying (I can barely use the browser on it!), so I know an upgrade is due. I don't know what I want, so I guess time to start researching.

I know many aren't fans of smartphones, but if you are, got any favorites? I won't go into iPhones, but I will consider Androids or Samsung phones.

(Oh, if you're wondering about the check, apparently, they don't really care to retrieve the check to confirm. I had to guess on the amount [under-guessed by about 14 cents], and they just credited it to my account. No questions asked. How strange is that?)

  1. Did you see my post about iPhone check deposits? On that note, no iPhone??!! LOL

    1. Haha, I could do bank deposits to CapOne360, but it didn't take the photo either. And sorry, I just won't even consider an apple unless I'm really out of options.

  2. I have a Samsung Note 2 and absolutely love it. It's kind of huge for a phone, but since I either use my headset or my car's bluetooth, I don't much care that it's supersized. Check deposit feature is also not limited to iPhone, at least not where I bank.

    1. I've seen the Note 2, but the thing is huge! I'd use it mostly for texting chatting, so I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with the size.

    2. I know! I had to special order a phablet case from Carla in order to cart it around. Now that I've had it awhile, I don't even notice the size anymore, except when I'm looking at my husband's iPhone 4, which seems so tiny in comparison.

  3. My favorite pick would have to be the nexus 4 on a price vs feature stand point. I actually want one myself but two things are in my way.
    1. Nothing is currently wrong with my phone.
    2. Since it sells from Google directly, it isn't available to my country :(

Since you seem to be a blackberry fan though, I would advise you to just try and hold out for the Q10 even though I don't have a lot of faith in BB's survival.

    1. Haha, thanks for the honesty regarding BB! I wonder if you could get a US unlocked Nexus to make it work in your side of the map.

  4. I have a Samsung Stratosphere, and for the price, it is a good phone. I think the Strat2 just came out.

A big feature for me personally is that it is a slide keyboard. I need a real keyboard. I can't use those little BB keys, and I really can't use the touch keyboard.

    1. I used to think the BB keys may be too small, but I find them just right, and I love a physical keyboard. I'm not too crazy about touchscreen ones yet.
