For the past 4 or so years, I've been wearing the same kind of sunglasses. And trust me, they're not all that fine! They're the Target brand (I think Merona?), and were usually for sale at $7.99/ea. I don't know why, but they just sit nicely and provide very good coverage from the sun. I really, truly like them. I like them so much, I've gone through 5 pairs in those last 4 years. First pair was worn to the ground; second pair had a bad lens-to-floor accident; third pair was stolen after I left them in one of our service halls at my part time job; 4th pair is still MIA since a month ago. 5th pair was stolen Saturday.
It happened once again at my part time job. Except that unlike the first time, this time it was in possibly the most public, foot-traffic heavy area of our service halls. Literally *every* department can go through those halls. There's always someone walking by there. I always leave my sunglasses hanging from our dept board. Most people know they are mine. Other people also hang things like their car keys, reading glasses, jackets and coats, etc near that board.
But after 10hrs of work on Sat, I discover they are gone. Really, why would someone do that? They're the cheapest glasses sold at Target! They were chipped on the left side! Paint was already coming off on the handles. They don't even look that nice, and cannot be resold. They also have no money hidden inside. I know, I checked!
I guess it doesn't bother me that they're gone. (Though I did like them a lot, and my Target stopped selling that exact model last year; I know this because I got the last 2 pairs of our store!) It bothers me that people I work with potentially took them. The same people I'm helping day in, day out. It upsets me that people I know would steal. I left a passive aggressive note asking for them to be returned. I have some faith left in humanity, don't I? I don't think I'll get them back, but I can hope. I don't want to have to go sunglasses hunting!
I've had the same pair of ROOTS aviators for 3 years & I'd be soo bummed if I lost them or someone stole them! Hope you find yours!
ReplyDeleteI always leave my sunglasses in my car because otherwise I lose them right away. Its disturbing that somebody would actually steal your sunglasses. Maybe it was just a trick?
ReplyDeleteI've already lost a pair at my part time job, and I did go around and asked everyone that was working with me that night... wish it was a joke. I'm still keeping my hopes up!
DeleteSeems I missed a lot while I was away, it sucks about the glasses and I don't understand why people always find a need to take things. Like ND, I leave my sunglasses in my car, I've had the same pair for close to two years now.
ReplyDeleteAnd I owe you some congratulations even though I am late. Congratulations on paying off the car dude! That's awesome.
I also saw your little tango with not having an EF, while I completely understand, I still feel you should set aside even something as small as $500 and if it gets spent on a non emergency so be it, but at least you have some sort of fund even for the smallest of emergencies.
Hopefully I'll be able to stick around for a while and see what happens.
Welcome back, Rafiki! And yeah, at some point, I'd like to have a "Murphy" fund of about $300-$500, which would be for all non-emergency surprises. Thanks for the congrats!
DeleteI'm sorry about your favorite glasses :( People can be so cheap. Somebody stole my friend's laundry basket the other day- with no clothes inside, just the basket...Makes you wonder!
ReplyDeleteNot sure if that's a good thing, but it makes me feel a bit better! Haha, stealing a laundry basket... now, *that's* a petty theft!
DeleteI think i have that exact same pair! They look pretty nice because they're big black glasses, but they're super cheap. I used to have designer sunglasses, but after I lost my last pair, I said no more! Now Ihave two pairs that I bought for $10 total from a banana republic outlet store. and I love them!
