I have my own car insurance!

That is all. Well, most of it. The total is $190 for the first 6 months since I am paying it in full (savings of $41!), and then it will be about $240 every 6 months. I will have to find somewhere in my budget to extract $40/mo so I can have the full premium complete by the time I need it in February.

1 more change left to do is to take my parents' insurance off my bank account. They're on their own now. Sadly, my removal (plus my car) only reduced their premiums by $25. Meh! I thought I was worth more than that.

I thought I'd be happier to get my own policy, but in reality, I am just getting it to stop them from taking my money through that route. I guess we all do what we have to do sometimes. Next step, the car! Date for that is Nov, but I may try and push it to Oct... only $250 short. I can do it, no? Sounds like a challenge to me!

Speaking of car insurance... when was the last time you had your quote redone? I was surprised how much our family's premium went down by just switching. Not that it really mattered, but I was very surprised. And then it dropped again after we changed one more time. I guess if you havent had your insurance policy looked at, or shopped around a bit, now it's as good a time as ever.

  2. That's great news! I shopped around last year when we added a couple of vehicles and dropped another one. I saved quite a bit from what I had been paying. With an extra vehicle on the plan and mine being new(er) I was paying less than I was paying for 3 older vehicles before.

  4. Good for you Tanner!
Another step in extracting your finances from the grasp of your grasping parents.
It's always good to shop around. It's also good to bundle sometimes if the company is large enough to handle all kinds of insurances and you need them.
    Well done.

  7. Just started following your blog and kudos to you for taking a step closer to being free or your toxic family issues. I've never experienced what you are going through in my family but have seen it happen with close friends. You're on the right track and seem to have a solid plan for fixing things. Good luck

  8. I'm off visiting some other blogs this evening and I came over from Carlas ½ daily dozen. As for car insurance our would be fairly cheap but we let our son ride with ours. There working and paying there way though college.
    Coffee is on.

  10. The photo of you is cute. Somehow I had pictured you looking not quite so young, though. Put some clothes on when you drive!

  11. “Because you never know who will be behind the wheel”--- That message on the picture simply explains why it is important to have car insurance. It will help you with all the expenses, in case you get in an accident. From vehicle repairs, to the damages and injuries you caused to other people, and most of all, if you are hit by someone who DOESN’T have insurance. There are some instances wherein you can sue the person but still he can't afford to pay all the damages. Your own car insurance will help you with all those payments.

  12. When I moved to an area closer to my work, my rate was reduced significantly! Getting married and changing your car can also change your insurance – events that will happen to me soon enough. Remember to keep a clean record and to handle your finances properly, so you can save money on insurance.

  13. Insuring your car is the best preparation for what might happen in the future. We can never be sure of 100% safety on the road; we can't control other drivers and unexpected circumstances, which can cause road mishaps. Having and paying for your own car insurance is part of being a responsible car owner.
